Question: Sarah do you test vaccines on enfants or animals.If you do don`t you believe that that is wrong and that is the same as testing on animals.

commented on 22 Jun 2010: No I don’t think it is wrong when it could save humans lives. All the animals that are tested on do not suffer as this is against the law and theyare only used if there are no other ways to find out the same thing. There is a policy for the three R’s, replacement , reduction and refinement in most countries whic is used when judging the proposals that are reviewed for animal testing.
If you think it is wrong then so is having a pet, it is also not natural to be kept in a cage or a confined area!

but how do you know that the vaccine won`t be harmful to the animals if you testing the vaccine to see if its safe in the first place

All vaccines are tested on animals first before they go near a human and then when you start testing a vaccine on a human then you have to go through very rigorous procedures to make sure you reduce any risks to the person. The first phas eof a clinical trial tests a very low dose in just a few humans to test for safety and then the second phase is to test different doses in more people and the third phase is the final test that would only take place if all the other phases were successful. I don’t agree this is wrong. Vaccines have saved more lives then any other intervention.
