• Question: What's outside the universe? Is there an edge to the universe? How is it expanding? Universe means everything there is so how can there be more?

Wow 8hemy, a lot of searching questions here..! these are very crucial questions and a cosmologist would be able to give you better answers. From my part my brain becomes somewhat limited when it comes to the theories of relativity and quantum mechanics that explain how the universe was created and how it works. I understand that there is an edge to the universe as we know it and beyond this there is anti-matter. our matter cannot exist outside our Universe and equally antimatter cannot exist in our universe. So we cannot pass into the space beyond our universe.

Scientists assume that as the universe was created by the big bang the effects of this explosion are still being experienced today and as a result of this explosion the universe is expanding. In simple words it is an expanding explosion of matter.

The meaning of the universe is also difficult to comprehend. I think a simple way of thinking about it is that everything in the universe is made of matter and energy. It is the famous einstein equation E=Mc2 where E is energy, M is matter and C is the speed of light. Matter can be converted to energy and energy into matter. There is a finite amount of energy+matter in the Universe but the relative ratio of one over the other changes.

I hope I kept it simple enough to understand. let me kow if you have any more questions on this.

This is way beyond the realm of my expertise. I would like to think there is life outside this universe but I have really no idea and don’t know enough about the subject to make any calculated reasonings.

Oh crikey…. lets start with the one bit I understand We can measure the spend at which planets are moving (red shift) and in what direction and all of us seem to be moving away from a single point ( the site of the big bang where matter and time was created)
all the rest…..I don’t know..I looked around and theories seem to include outisde the universe being not in 3 -dimensions and time which is why it would not be reality for us

here are some sites to research more
      http://www.hawking.org.uk/index.php/glossary
      http://www.cfa.harvard.edu/seuforum/opis_tour_earth.htm

i have had a look at other theories of multiverses and really can’t explain the,, which is good..it would be very boring if you understood everything

but excellent question that will keep me puzzling for a good while
I f i find any sites that suddenly make things clear i will edit this
      thanks
