When we bang our heads lots of damage to nerve cells can happen and the casing around them which reduces the speed at which impulses flow. Some injuries result in lots of swelling but some of these things can get better. Actual destruction of a neurone would only happen on very serious head injuries and neurones do not regenerate like skin cells so you will never get them back. Depending on where you hit your head will depend on what is effected.
