I love being a scientist! It is the thrill of thinking of new ideas, and then thinking of ways of seeing if we are right or not. And the ideas we are thinking about are trying to discover the fundamental aspects of how we function and work. I can’t think of anything cooler than discovering something that no one has ever known, especially given the importance of knowing how we work if we are ever going to tackle things in our bodies that go wrong to cause disease.
Another big perk of being a scientist is the opportunity to travel. I have been all around Europe already this year giving seminars, and have worked for 3 years in San Francisco a few years ago. Basically, there are research labs all over the world, so if you get decent training (a PhD), you can basically choose which country you want to work in for your further training!
