• Question: what is the scientific name for bacteria?

      Each bacterial speies has its own name eg Streptococcus pneumoniae, mycobacterium tuberculosis etc.

      all bacteria have a double barrelled latin name like Escherichia coli or staphylococcus aureus so thats their scientific name like Canis lupus is the scientific name for wolf..its just bacteria don’t have another name unlike wolf

      Bacteria as a group are called Bacteria, a single one is called a bacterium. There are thousands, possibly millions of species, most we probably don’t yet know about.

      Bacteria is a scientific name but there are loads of bacteria and each one has a latin name.

      Bacteria is the scientific name. You do get scientific names for specific types of bacteria, like Escheria coli (E. coli), Listeria, salmonella, yersinia, lactobacillus, bifidobacteria, and many,many more….. this tells you what family of bacteria they belong to.
