I really enjoy interacting with school children and teaching and i thought I could contribute to the local African community by using the money to create an Open Day for the mothers and children involved in our studies.I also wished someone had talked to me about science and what scientists did and I may have made up my mind what I wanted to do earlier.

That is a very good question! It was a long time ago so I can’t remember….. but seriously, it is basically to increase people’s understanding and interest in science. Science generally is not seen as being at all cool, or a good thing to do- scientists are often portrayed as geeks, who are a bit weird. If doing this we can let people know this is not the case (most of the time!) then that is definitely a good thing!
